Every raw 5eTools field the importer reads, one table per entry type, generated from the importer itself.
name, source and page become the card's source line; entries becomes its text. The arrays map in a fixed order (items first, features before their class, classes before subclasses, spells before subclasses) so a later type can name an earlier one in the same file.
Items (item, baseitem)
Field in your file
What the sheet does with it
type, weaponCategory, dmg1, dmg2, dmgType, property, mastery — type a weapon, with its dice and properties
An attack row: the right ability, proficiency if you have the category, the damage die and type, the versatile die, and the 2024 mastery property.
ac, strength, stealth — type an armor
Armor Class computed with the light/medium/heavy Dexterity cap, the Strength requirement, and disadvantage on Stealth while it is worn.
baseItem
Inherits the base weapon’s or armor’s stats, so a Longsword +1 only has to say what changes.
weight, value
Carried weight and coin in the inventory.
rarity, reqAttune
Every effect on the item applies only while it is equipped and, if attunement is required, attuned; it takes one of your attunement slots.
The +N on that exact number, labelled with the item’s name wherever it shows.
bonusAbilityCheck, bonusProficiencyBonus
Reported in the preview, not mapped by the item importer. The sheet itself can take a bonus to a whole family of ability checks (modifies with an ability_checks target, in a _sheetling block); a bonus to the proficiency bonus has no target anywhere.
charges, recharge, rechargeAmount
A charge counter on the item with its reset: dawn, a short rest or a long rest. Any other trigger leaves the counter manual, with a row saying so.
resist, conditionImmune
Damage resistance and condition immunity while equipped.
immune, vulnerable
Reported in the preview, not mapped by the item importer. Damage immunity exists on the sheet (grants_damage_immunity, in a _sheetling block); vulnerability has no effect kind.
ability, static, choose — static, or a plain add
static raises the score to that value if it is lower (the gauntlets shape); a plain add raises it by that much. Both hold only while the item is worn. A choose is reported, not mapped.
Walking speed set or raised; a mode equal to walking speed. A multiply is reported, not mapped.
attachedSpells, resourceName
The item’s spells as innate casts with their own uses per rest or per day. A cast that spends the item’s charges (resourceName) is offered only when the charge tracker exists.
uid, note, other, miscTags, entries
The card’s text and its bookkeeping; nothing derives from these.
Classes (class, classFeature)
Field in your file
What the sheet does with it
hd, faces
The hit die: hit points at level 1 and on every level-up, and the Hit Dice you spend on a short rest.
Proficiencies on the sheet; the skill choose is a wizard pick with that count; anyArtisansTool is a pick from the seventeen artisan’s tools. A full name (“martial weapons”) grants the family; optional proficiencies are printed, not granted.
startingEquipment, defaultData, default, goldAlternative, item, quantity, equipmentType, equipmentTypes, value, special, _, a, A — defaultData, with its _/a/A option lists
The starting kit lands in the inventory at creation, the first option of each choice. The gold-instead-of-kit option (goldAlternative) is not modelled and is reported.
classFeatures, classFeature, className, classSource, level, entries, gainSubclassFeature — one classFeature per level
A feature card that arrives at its level on level-up. An Ability Score Improvement entry does not become a card; it becomes the level at which level-up asks for an ASI or a feat. gainSubclassFeature marks the levels the subclass adds its own.
classTableGroups, title, colLabels, rowsSpellProgression, rows, spellcastingAbility, casterProgression, cantripProgression, preparedSpells, preparedSpellsProgression, spellsKnownProgression, spellsKnownProgressionFixed, spellsKnownProgressionFixedAllowLowerLevel, spellsKnownProgressionFixedByLevel — the slot table (rowsSpellProgression) with the caster fields
Spell slots per level, cantrips known, how many spells you may prepare or know, and the ability behind your spell attack and save DC. The Prepare dialog counts against these. A plain rows table (Rages, Sneak Attack dice) is printed on the class card, not derived.
A pick group (the invocation or metamagic shape) with the number known per level. Its options are the file’s optionalfeature entries carrying the same featureType.
resources — on a feature
Reported in the preview, not mapped. Declare the tracker in a _sheetling block instead.
consumes — on a feature
The feature gets a button that spends one use of the pool it names (amount for more). The pool is found by name, in your file first, then in the rules. A pool nothing declares makes no button, and the preview says so.
Subclasses (subclass, subclassFeature)
Field in your file
What the sheet does with it
className, classSource, shortName
Which class the subclass belongs to. A shipped class by name (Fighter) or a class in the same file; the subclass is then offered at that class’s subclass level.
subclassFeatures, subclassShortName, subclassSource, level, entries — one subclassFeature per level
A feature card at its level. A container that lists refSubclassFeature entries shows once and grants the nested features beneath it.
additionalSpells — under prepared
Always-prepared spells (the domain-spell shape) that never count against your prepared total. Under expanded: spells added to the list you may prepare from, not handed to you.
An optional feature that replaces another one the subclass lists (Blessed Strikes for Divine Strike). The pair becomes a one-pick choice instead of two grants; the replaced feature is read from the “replaces the … feature” line.
consumes — on a feature
A Channel Divinity option and the like: the feature gets a button that spends one use of the pool it names (amount for more). The pool is found by name, in your file first, then in the rules. A pool nothing declares makes no button, and the preview says so.
Spellcasting on a subclass of a non-caster (the third-caster shape) with its own slot table. Which class’s spell list it draws from is the one thing the format has no field for; _sheetling.spellcasting.spellListOf names it.
Spells (spell)
Field in your file
What the sheet does with it
level, school, time, number, unit, range, distance, type, amount, components, v, s, m, text, duration
The card and the Prepare dialog, with the level deciding which slot casts it.
concentration — on a duration
Casting it while you already concentrate opens the keep-or-drop prompt, and the sheet tracks what you are concentrating on.
meta, ritual — meta.ritual
Offered as a ritual cast that spends no slot.
classes, fromClassList
Which class’s Prepare dialog offers it. A spell on no list is only reachable through a pick or a grant.
spellAttack
An attack-roll button using your spell attack bonus.
savingThrow
The save and your DC on the card. Text that describes a save without this field is reported, and no save is mapped.
entries, items, entry, damageInflict — the damage dice in entries, with damageInflict
A damage roll of that type.
entriesHigherLevel
The extra dice when you cast it from a higher slot; the cast card asks which slot.
scalingLevelDice, scaling
Cantrip scaling by character level.
miscTags — containing HL
A heal roll instead of a damage roll.
Species (race, subrace)
Field in your file
What the sheet does with it
speed, walk, fly, swim, climb, burrow — a number, or { walk, fly, swim, climb, burrow }
Walking speed on the sheet; each other mode listed beside it as its own speed.
size
Size on the sheet.
ability, choose, from, amount, count — fixed, or choose with from/amount/count
Fixed increases are applied to the scores. A choose becomes a pick in the creation wizard, offered from exactly that list.
darkvision
Darkvision with that range in the senses row.
resist
Damage resistance, shown on the sheet and applied when you take that damage type.
A feat pick in the creation wizard, from every feat of that kind you have loaded. A feat with its own ability increase asks for it on the sheet.
entries, _sheetling — each named block
One feature card per trait, with the trait’s text. A _sheetling block on a trait gives it a mechanic.
overwrite — a subrace naming its parent race
Merged over the parent: single values (speed, size, Darkvision) take the subrace’s, lists (abilities, resistances, proficiencies, spells, traits) add up; overwrite names the lists that replace instead. The base species imports too, so a “no subrace” pick stays available.
Feats (feat)
Field in your file
What the sheet does with it
ability, choose, from, amount, count — fixed or choose
The increase is applied; a choose is asked when the feat is picked.
category — O, when a background in the same file grants the feat
An Origin feat, granted by that background at creation. Every other feat is a General feat, offered at the level-4 pick.
Proficiencies and languages; a choose is a wizard pick.
startingEquipment, _, a, A, item, quantity, equipmentType, equipmentTypes, value, special
The kit lands in the inventory at creation.
ability, choose, weighted, from — ability.choose.weighted.from
The 2024-style ability increase choice in the wizard, from those abilities. A fixed increase has no field on a background and is reported.
feats
The Origin feat the background grants, when it names a shipped feat or one in the same file.
additionalSpells
As everywhere else: the shared table.
entries
The card’s text.
Optional features (optionalfeature)
Field in your file
What the sheet does with it
featureType — EI, MM, FS:F, FS:P, FS:R
Joins the shipped pool: a homebrew Eldritch Invocation, Metamagic option or Fighting Style is offered by the shipped Warlock, Sorcerer, Fighter, Paladin or Ranger in their own picker, beside the SRD options. A code your own class or subclass declares in its optionalfeatureProgression joins that group instead. Any other code is a plain feature card, with a row in the preview saying no group took it.
Printed on the card. A _sheetling.prerequisite makes a level, an ability score or “has spellcasting” a real gate in the picker.
additionalSpells
Spells the option grants: the shared additionalSpells table.
consumes
A manoeuvre and the like: the feature gets a button that spends one use of the pool it names (amount for more). The pool is found by name, in your file first, then in the rules. A pool nothing declares makes no button, and the preview says so.
entries
The card’s text.
Conditions (condition)
Field in your file
What the sheet does with it
entries — a condition’s name and entries
Joins the condition list: the picker on the sheet offers it beside the SRD conditions, and it opens to its text. A homebrew condition imposes nothing on rolls unless a _sheetling block says what.
When the spell is in the same file, the creature becomes that spell’s companion card. You pick a form and a slot, and its Armor Class, hit points and attacks follow the slot. A creature whose numbers cannot be read is left as a plain stat block, and the preview says why.
A stat block in the compendium and in the DM’s bestiary: the creature can be seated in an encounter with its hit points and its saves. A Beast of a legal challenge rating is a Wild Shape form the Druid can take.
resist, immune, vulnerable, conditionImmune
The stat block’s defences, shown on the creature’s card.
The creature’s spellcasting block as text with its spell names; the DM reads it, the sheet does not cast for it.
entries, fluff
Description and lore on the card.
The shared additionalSpells block
Field in your file
What the sheet does with it
_ — a level key: "1", "3", "_"
The spells inside arrive at that character level; "_" means from the start.
innate, will, rest, daily, ritual — innate, with will, rest, daily or ritual
Cast without a slot: at will, or with a tracker of that many uses that resets on the rest or the day the key names; ritual means ritual-only.
known, prepared
A spell you always have prepared, cast with your slots.
expanded
Added to the list you may prepare from.
choose, from, count, all — a filter such as level=1|class=Wizard, or the Ritual or attack-roll tag
A pick on the sheet, offered from exactly that pool. A filter key the importer does not know drops the pick with a row rather than offering the whole list.
ability
The casting ability for innate spells. choose leaves it to the character’s own innate-ability choice; a prepared spell always uses the class’s ability.
resourceName, resource, limited
Spends from a tracker the same file declares by that name. Without one, the spell is dropped with a row: never offered free.
pb, pbe, halfPb, halfPbe, mod — a use count written as a formula
Uses equal to your proficiency bonus (pb), or half of it, or an ability modifier (mod); the e variants add one.
What the importer declines
Raw type
Why
variantrule
A rule variant is a page of text with no home on a character sheet. Put a table rule in House rules instead, where it is a labelled toggle.
table
A free-standing table has nothing to attach to. Tables inside a feature’s entries still render on its card.
